Quilt Design

I love the rhythm of simple repeated block patterns combined with dark and light coloured fabrics to create contrast and visual impact.

Woodland Wreath - Country Home Decor

Celebrating the wonderful colours in nature, this wreath is made in shades of woodland evergreens.

Design Theme - Nest

Design Theme - Nest

The beginnings of an idea.... NEST - FEATHERS - TEXTURES - COLOURS - Ideas start to form when I bring images, colours, fabric and yarns together.

Work-in-progress. Here you see the QUILT-TOP, made of simple squares and triangles, pieced together in a traditional style.

Hand Knitted Cushion Cover

Hand Knitted Cushion Cover

This has been knitted using a simple fair isle pattern. Using a neutral beige yarn for the main colour, it was fun to keep adding different colours to give the effect of stripes to the fabric.

Design With Fibres, Yarn & Fabric

Blending textures and colours is a hands-on process. I'm designing things for a modern, warm & cosy home.

Tumbling Blocks Cushion Made Modern

Tumbling Blocks Cushion Made Modern

A traditional 'tumbling blocks' design, worked in dark and light fabrics creates a 3D effect. The interlocking diamonds have been hand stitched together using the ENGLISH PAPER PIECING method of patchwork.

The appearance of the quilted fabric changes according to the fabrics and the types of stitches being used.

The Colour Story for NEST

The Colour Story for NEST

The colours are natural and earthy: brown twigs and golden straw, light creamy white feathers and clear blue eggs. At the beginning of the project I gathered materials which fit into the colour theme. There was a variety of weights and textures.

Quilting Using Recycled Material

Quilting Using Recycled Material

I love to find a creative use for unwanted, scrap fabric. Here I used a worn-out shirt to make a little table mat.

Feathering Your Nest

Feathering Your Nest

I found this abandoned birds' nest when clearing out a nesting box in my garden. It is a thing of beauty and such a treat to be able to see it close-up. The cup-shaped nest is built from small twigs, moss, feathers and hair. Sadly, some of the eggs remain. Just as not all people like to live in the same type of house, so a birds nest reflects it's lifestyle and habitat.

Linear Quilting by Hand and Machine

Linear Quilting by Hand and Machine

Quilting provides strength and warmth to the cloth, while the stitches add a softly textured surface. When the pieces have been stitched and bound, I look forward to seeing how they change when they have been washed and dried. Here I used a 100% cotton batting which shrinks slightly on washing, so adding to the lovely crinkly texture.
